Homecoming was a broken mess of a game, at least my pre-order copy was. The auto would drop, there would be visual glitches. Furthermore, they put way too much focus on combat puzzles. This was the game that made me stop listening to X-Play reviews. X-play gave it a perfect score at the time. There is no way you can describe this game as perfect. It had some interesting creature design, however, there was something off about the game. It definitely felt more "game like" than the other titles of the series. Like defeat all enemies in this arena to progress to the next arena. I have always sucked at combat heavy games. Resident Evil (classic), and silent hill (classic) used enemies as a barrier or a way to keep you moving, rather than the end goal. Think about it, in SH1 while you are in the streets, the enemies are fairly easy to out run, if you don't hesitate or move slowly. In Homecoming you enter an area, fight, new area opens up, fight, new area opens up rinse and repeat.

Are you really not going to consult the music that played during that side mission that you hate? You know, the music that absolutely ruined any sense of horror that the game had left to provide? Also, I absolutely despised the ending where you were throwing markers at the endgame boss, it just felt stupid. Am I alone in this?

Game is great, but the ending was botched

As someone from the US, the cover art was different. Instead of a bloodied inmate screaming in fear, it instead was that electrocuted ghost in the chair getting shocked as the heads of a couple monsters were in the upper corners, one being the needle monster while the other was the bloated monster filled with rats. What stood out to me more with this game back then wasn't even the cover art but a gaming magazine ad. It had the head of an inmate in a toilet. Aside from the Silent Hill 4 magazine ad that had a ghost within the apartment, it was one of the ads to tell me how scary a game was going to be back then.

Whilst I admit, i was never big on SH4, i didn't dislike it like Downpour but i just kind of rated it as a "meh" game, but, i do think removing the ghosts from the game would of made it better, I wouldn't of been amazing even still but the annoying chases and choosing which ones to pin down kind of ruined it. I think without them it would of felt decent, It still would of been lacking in area's but probably passable as a okay experience.

I honestly was (and still am) on team hate for this. The issues was just too many, the dumb chase scenes was annoying and honestly, made the idea of the nightmare world feel dull due to it, the enemy design sucked, sure there was a few others but i argue there is only the two, grunge man and grunge woman, others are so few and far between (and slightly buffer man doesn't count, that is the same model just made bigger) they ain't worth counting, we went from actual monsters to a man and woman, whose screaming attack was just dumb for a SH game - the unlimited spawns also sucked, none of it felt SH, nor did the breakable weapons and temporary stuff. There is actually so many things they would need to fix to make it work. The settings in the town was okay, i liked the subquest function, it felt weird for a horror game but some like re-enacting the murder house was quite interesting. I think the IP does need selling though so many say to Kojima and I'm not so sure, Silent Hills demo whilst only a demo...i didn't see the thrill, also, Kojima has a habit of going overboard on a lot of ideas to the point they become silly, he was known in MGS games to have a guy who had to tell him "no" just because how he got carried away and took a good concept and ruined it. Maybe with the right team he could do it but who knows.

35:47 in this "puzzle" when you play in coop its a little more interesting than you think since 1 player is solving the puzzle the second player is protecting them from infinitely spawning necromorphs. So you uave a bit of tension of trying to solve the puzzle fast and trusting you arent going to be attacked in the middle of it.

One notable difference I’ve noticed with the remake is when you follow the blood trail you now go into a house to get the static thingy instead of the creepy tunnel boarded up

I can’t believe we’re getting a remake of this masterpiece. Let’s hope it’s good. I honestly liked the trailer and think it looks like it’s gonna be good but not the same gameplay entierly but most things are the same in every aspect

Honestly neither homecoming or downpour were bad games, they just didn't feel like silent hill. 7/10 if they were their own franchises. Also I really enjoyed downpour, it was fun, but jenky. 8 just needed better character design imo.

I really enjoy this game, and I doubt anyone who isn't from America would really understand the vibe. If you're not a local this game won't effect you the same way. Same thing for far cry 5. You've gotta be from here to actually appreciate the attention to detail.

But yeah, i found homecoming meh, it wasn't good and certainly deserves to be bashed by fans but downpour was much worse, i generally hate that game with every fibre of my being.
